The City Ain’t Safe

I signed off at 6:12p.m. Read the waiver, pen to paper, sign the dotted line – a standard procedure that, little did I                             know, would kick off one of the most exciting nights of my life.

On Saturday, March 5th, I accompanied Constable Darren Prince on a ride-along, an opportunity offered by the Thunder Bay Police Service as part of their community policing stance.

In the Creston Valley of British Columbia, there lies a quaint, peaceful border town called Bountiful. Canada’s largest polygamist community sits tucked beneath the mountains, quiet and deserted-looking. On closer inspection, one might note a marked similarity in the residents’ appearance; for the most part, they all have similar facial structure and hair colour. A note is found on the door, left by one of the leader’s children or wives: “He’s a monster, *please* rescue me.”

It was a Harper-bashin’ good time last Thursday when Michael Ignatieff visited Confederation College for a town hall session. The Liberal leader is conducting a series of “Open Mike” sessions across the country.

Rec’ers chip in for Special Olympics

When Tom Potter saw a poster advertising volunteer opportunities at the Special Olympic Ontario Winter Games, he jumped at the opportunity – and he knew his Outdoor Recreation students would be willing to take on the challenge, too.        When he pitched the idea, they were all for it and were ready to make it happen.
